American Red Cross flood relief efforts in Fort Smith, Arkansas

FORT SMITH, Ark. – United Federal Credit Union (United) donated $5,650 to the American Red Cross to help victims of flooding in Arkansas’ River Valley area. Hundreds of families were affected by storms and floods in Arkansas as the Arkansas River reached historic levels in late May and early June 2019.

From May 30 to July 1, 2019, United Federal Credit Union matched online donations dollar-for-dollar to the American Red Cross to assist in disaster relief efforts across the region. United also committed to donating an additional $1,000.

“We are thankful to our members, employees, and friends in the community for donating, and helping the American Red Cross provide much needed support and resources to flood victims in the River Valley area,” said Stephanie Riffle, United Market Vice President—Arkansas. “When our community is in need, the team at United and our membership step up to do the right thing.”

The Red Cross estimates that it will spend more than $9 million helping people affected by the midwestern tornadoes and floods in Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Thanks to donors, the Red Cross has received $6.5 million to help people affected by tornadoes and floods. Over 470,000 meals and snacks were served, and emergency supplies were delivered to over 30,000 households using dozens of Emergency Response Vehicles.
