How We Pay It Forward

Since 2008, United employees have opted to donate money previously used for a company holiday party to instead fund our Pay It Forward program. Every employee receives $15 to give to a needy individual, family, or organization of their choice. Many times departments and branches combine funds to create a more substantial donation from the credit union.

Here are some of the ways Team United helped out our communities in 2019:
  • More than $12,000 donated
  • 85 different individuals and community organizations received donations across the six states where branches are located
  • Organizations include: Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter, CASA of Crawford County, The Call in Fort Smith, Christmas Care in Berrien Springs, Readiness Center in Benton Harbor, Berrien County Animal Shelter, Food Pantry at First Presbyterian Church of Benton Harbor, The Willows Assisted Living in St. Joseph, Victims Services of Berrien County, Santa for Seniors, CASA of Berrien County, Homes for Our Troops, White Pigeon Science Olympiad Team, River School in Sodus, Feeding America Mobile Food Trucks, Warriors for the Homeless, Marie Yeager Cancer Center, My Team Triumph, Monroe Elementary in South Bend, Christmas Commandos, Ronald McDonald House of Michiana, Community Christmas Fellowship, Turning Point, Salvation Army, Home Instead in Carson City, Eddy’s House in Reno, Canine Rehabilitation Center and Sanctuary in Reno, Women and Children’s Center of the Sierra, and CARE Chest of Sierra Nevada, Monticello United Methodist Church’s “Feeding the Future” program in Statesville, The Storehouse of Henderson County

Ways you can Pay It Forward!

You might be surprised about what you can do. You may not think you have enough to give to make a difference, but when you work on your New Year budget, consider budgeting for giving.

  • A little goes a long way—give what you can of time, talent, and resources. What might seem like a small contribution to you can mean a world of difference to others.
  • Plan ahead—small amounts set aside weekly, monthly or quarterly add up.
  • Make it a family tradition. Have the family vote on what organization to support then put away funds on a regular basis and make the donation during the holiday season.
  • Volunteer with the organization you select throughout the year.
  • Introduce kids to philanthropy and budgeting by setting aside a portion of their weekly allowance. Watch it grow through the year and donate around the holidays.
  • Adopt a family that is not as fortunate as your own.
