Absolutely. For the past 28 years, United has consistently earned a 5‑star rating from BauerFinancial, one of the nation’s most respected financial rating agencies. This distinction—combined with capital levels that significantly exceed the NCUA’s “well‑capitalized” threshold—reinforces United’s strength, stability, and commitment to being a safe, financially sound institution for its Members.
We may be a little biased—but there are some clear reasons why many people find a credit union to be the better choice:
- Member Ownership
Credit unions are not-for-profit and owned by their members, while banks are for-profit and owned by shareholders. That difference means a credit union’s focus is on serving members—not maximizing profits. - Fewer Fees
In general, credit unions tend to offer fewer and lower fees than banks, particularly compared to large national institutions. - Better Rates & Dividends
Because credit unions return earnings to members, they often provide more competitive dividend rates on savings products and lower rates on loans. - More Personal Experience
Credit unions are known for being community-focused and relationship-driven, offering a more personalized experience—rather than a transactional one where you feel like just another account number.
Everyone’s different, and it really comes down to what you want most in a financial partner. In general, though, credit unions tend to offer better value and put members first.
