South Bend, Indiana – United Federal Credit Union (United) has donated $1,000 to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana to help the non-profit organization provide food to people in need located in its six-county service area during the national emergency caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

“United is dedicated to stepping up and helping our community whenever possible,” said Alysa Snell, United’s Market Vice President in Indiana. “The Food Bank of Northern Indiana provides such a vital service to our friends and neighbors throughout the region year-round, and especially in times of great need. The team at United is happy to lend our support as we all work together to stay healthy during this pandemic.”

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is currently accepting financial donations on its website. Food donations such as canned protein, peanut butter, and other pantry items are also being accepted.

“We are humbled by United Federal Credit Union’s support for the Food Bank,” said Marijo Martinec, Executive Director/CEO of the Food Bank of Northern Indiana. “This donation will provide 5,110 pounds of food and help all those in need during this uncertain time. We are so grateful for their generosity.”

Drive-thru food distribution is currently being offered for those in need. Items will be pre-bagged and pre-boxed, and visitors are asked to remain in their vehicle. There will be a designated area for walk-up shoppers as well.

In 2019, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana distributed more than 8.8 million pounds of food to its network of 150 member agencies in its six-county service area.
