United Federal Credit Union 2015-2016 School Year Scholarship Program

For high school Seniors who demonstrate academic excellence and community engagement

The purpose of the United Federal Credit Union Scholarship program is to recognize academic excellence and community support provided by our young members. Recognizing that these individuals are the key to our future, the leadership of the credit union has established this scholarship program to demonstrate their belief in our young people’s potential. We believe that, just as we honor the legacy of our past, we also have a responsibility to invest in our future.

 

United Federal Credit Union will award scholarships to high school seniors who demonstrate community service and academic achievement.One scholarship will be granted in the amount of $1000 and nine scholarships will be granted in the amount of $500 each. Applicants must:

  • Be an active member of United Federal Credit Union as evidenced by at least six months of membership and a savings and/or checking account in their name;
  • Be a graduating high school senior;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to community services;
  • Be accepted as an incoming freshman at an accredited college, trade school or university;
  • Achieve one of the following academic requirements:
    • A cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4-point scale) or 3.5 (on a 5-point scale)
    • An SAT score of at least 1511
    • An ACT score of at least 21.2

  • A completed application form, 2015-2016 Application Form.
  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher;
  • Proof that you have met our academic requirements (see above) If applicable, please provide official raised seal or signature transcripts;
  • A 300 – 400 word, original essay. The essay topic: Discuss the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and describe how this philosophy has impacted your life. The essays will be scored on: meaningfulness/impact on the applicant’s life, originality, grammar, clarity of expression and composition.
  • Applications must be submitted to a local branch by 5PM local time or postmarked by March 31, 2015.

 

The primary focus of the UFCU Scholarship is an applicant’s academic achievement and service to community. The applicants will be scored as follows

  • Academic Achievement (25%)
  • Community Involvement (25%)
  • Extra-Curricular Activities (including athletics) (25%)
  • Essay (25%)

 

Corporate Award: The individual with the highest score will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

 

Regional Awards*: The individual with the highest score in each UFCU geographic region will receive a $500 scholarship.

Each scholarship winner must begin studies within one year of notification and agree to allow United Federal Credit Union to use his/her name and photograph in promotional materials and press releases.

 

The applicants selected to receive scholarship awards are the sole decision of United Federal Credit Union and its designated judges. All decisions final.

 

*Members will be placed in the region their account is assigned. If you live outside of your assigned region, you will be placed in the “All Others” region. If there are no applicants that meet the minimum requirements within a region, no award will be given. Immediate family members of UFCU employees and official family not eligible.
